Highlights from the launch
Thank you to our funders, partners and artists who came along to celebrate the launch of Derbyshire Makes at Waters View, C.W. Sellors, Carsington on Thursday 13 February.
Walk the Plank created a spectacular fire trail drawing guests to the venue entrance.
Guests were able to make wire buckles and brooches with wire artist Lise Bennett, share their thoughts about Derbyshire by sewing them onto a banner with Sue Reddish and Alex Murphy, discuss what Nature means to them with Glassball Studio, and have a go at throwing a pot with ceramic artist Derek Harbinson.
Huge thank you to the team at C.W. Sellors for hosting our event and for their jewellery makers demonstrating how they shape Blue John gemstones into stunning heart necklaces.
We were delighted to hear from Rebecca Sellors, Managing Director, C.W. Sellors, Cllr Barry Lewis, Leader of Derbyshire County Council, James Berresford, Chair of the Culture, Heritage and Tourism Board, Peter Knott, Midlands Area Director, Arts Council England, and Alex Murphy, local maker and former contestant on the BBC's The Great British Sewing Bee, who is championing our Dare to Dream mass participation project.
Jim Muirhead provided the musical accompaniment and artists Deb Pitman and Fenn Bartels brought along two handmade Swifts, providing a taster of what's to come at the Glossop festival in April.
