Hands-on making all weekend
In the glorious sunshine, people of all ages joined Derbyshire Makes in Heanor to take part in and celebrate all things handmade, all programmed by Make/Shift.
Locals joined Val and Trev in the Community Living Room, upcycling workshops, the Listening Lounge and ending with some dancing at the 'Valaoke' Kitchen Disco.
Generous Waste led workshops using basic materials to create new handmade items. Lots of people created their own birds using natural materials with artist Michelle Reader, as part of an eco-project led by Fleet Arts. Grow Outside encouraged people to plan, swap and share seeds. Artist Lise Bennett helped people to contribute to a huge embroidered map of Amber Valley, while Swanwick Men's Shed shared their DIY skills so people could make their own wooden bird boxes.
Things got messy pouring acrylic paint on canvas resulting in some beautiful artwork, with artist Paola De Giovanni at Mustard Cafe.
Local legend and bookshop owner Liz Barrow led Storytime and craft sessions at Bizy Lizy Books, inspired by the book 'Five Little Speckled Frogs'.
And it was hectic down at Infinite Wellbeing Community Centre with a packed day of activities including music making, crafts and Hubbub Theatre in residence running movement, games, percussion, drumming and puppet making workshops.
Our Countywide programme was out in force with the first MAKE Room Workshops and Walkshops creating temporary cardboard structures with messages inspired by experiences in nature. There was also banner and flag making workshops as part of Dare to Dream, and clay workshops on The Makory.
On Sunday, locals were encouraged to share their skills and get to know their neighbours in the Big Community Skills Share.
