The Earth Our Wealth

This installation piece celebrates both the community and history of Swadlincote and surrounding areas. Each individual ceramic bust has been created by students at Burton and South Derbyshire College following a workshop run by William Moorley. The students span from the Level 2 in Art and Design, Level 3 3D and mixed media courses to the Recreational Ceramics course for mature learners. “From the Earth our Wealth” the motto associated with South Derbyshire and in particular Swadlincote is at the heart of this piece.

Initially the use of clay as a homage to the main historical and current industries within South Derbyshire from Cornish ware to, sanitary ware, clay pipes, and ceramic construction materials. The ceramic busts are to celebrate the diverse community, which is South Derbyshire, each piece has been individually sculpted.
