Alan has been turning for over 20 years, and was a founder member of Derwent Woodturning Club, where he was the Chairperson for 22 years! A keen spindle turner, Alan’s turning ‘heroes’ are Chris Stott, who is the inspiration for many boxes that he makes, and the late Ray Key, both excellent box makers.
Derwent Woodturning Club meet on the first and third Wednesday at Sharpe’s Pottery Museum in Swadlincote. Explore this wonderful craft, with a history stretching back thousands of years, suggesting its practice in ancient Egypt and other ancient civilisations.
